4.7 percent of adults in Ohio received disability payments in 2009

In 2009, 4.7 percent of adults in the state of Ohio were on the Social Security Disability list. Disability payments are usually distributed to people in areas where unemployment is common and hands on labor is necessary to complete a job.
There were 359,210 people living in Ohio who relied on disability payments in 2009. These people were part of the category of the working age population. The working age is considered to be between 15 and 64 years old and in Ohio there were 7,703,446 working age people.
Ohio ranked 23rd among the states in terms of people receiving Social Security Disability payments.
