A 37-year-old Washington man and his wife were sentenced to prison terms after pleading guilty to Social Security fraud. The couple was receiving disability payments under the pretext that the husband was injured and unable to work.
The man’s wife lied and said that she was a neighbor of her husband’s so that she could falsely verify that he was not able to work due to his injuries. The scheme went on between the years of 1996 and 2010. In that time, they managed to obtain $67,510 from the state of Washington.
A prison sentence of 27 months was awarded to the husband and the wife will serve six months behind bars. They were ordered to pay almost $300,000 in restitution as well.
